In this issue of State Budgeting Matters, The Center for Community Solutions (CCS) seeks to provide a landscape of the state’s efforts to address drug addiction through prevention. By highlighting strategies at work throughout the state, CCS hopes to shed more light on upstream prevention strategies that may change the game for future generations.Key Takeaways

  • Ohio has been referred to as “Ground Zero” for the opioid and drug addiction crisis that continues to take a deadly toll on communities across the nation.
  • While opioid overdoses receive the most attention, overdose deaths involving other drugs, including alcohol and cocaine, are also increasing.
  • To combat this trend, more work needs to be done to prevent addiction from happening in the first place.
