Dear Mayor,

Congratulations on your recent election as Mayor of the City of Cleveland.

The Center for Community Solutions stands ready to assist through the offering of non-partisan policy analysis and proactive recommendations regarding challenges as you begin your term in January, 2022. We have asked 10 citizens from the city and surrounding communities (Cleveland is the engine for the entire Northeast Ohio areas) to address topics which will be waiting for you after your inauguration.

As you are aware, Cleveland has numerous cultural, environmental, health and social advantages on which to build and re-energize the region and all its residents. From a theater district that in many ways rivals New York, to world-class and renowned health care facilities providing cutting edge and innovative life-sustaining treatments, to residents hungering for new leadership and direction. Cleveland is a canvas on which you, as the newly elected leader, can build a lasting legacy for future generations.

Cleveland is a canvas on which you, as the newly elected leader, can build a lasting legacy for future generations.

Notwithstanding those advantages, there is a lot of work to be done in the areas of social justice, education reform, poverty and social inequity. Policing remains a primary concern of many, as does continuing and growing gun violence within the city and throughout the nation. Social inequalities in areas of wealth, education and access to health care are challenges which will require thoughtful reflection and actions that will be models for other cities to emulate.

Mayor, Cleveland stands on the precipices of tomorrow. There are multiple challenges and obstacles ahead of you, yet you have the people of Cleveland and really the region behind you. Read, hear and listen to the voices of those providing their thoughts, ideas and recommendations as to what needs to be done.

Bold leadership, innovative leadership and visionary leadership will be the calling card of the Mayor who brings this tremendously resourced area to its full potential and grandeur.

Respectfully Submitted,David B. Miller, PhD Chair, Board of Directors, The Center for Community Solutions
