Ohio’s infant mortality rate in 2013, 7.33 infant deaths per 1,000 live births, ranked 45th among all states, and was 21 percent above the national average of 5.96. In addition, infant mortality among African Americans was more than twice the rate among Whites. In order to document the background conditions contributing to high infant mortality, this report examines the birth outcomes and risk factors for all 88 Ohio counties, the 16 county Northeast Ohio region, Cuyahoga County municipalities, and city of Cleveland neighborhoods for the years 2010 to 2014.
